SO WHAT IS PEDIATRIC MASSAGE?

Pediatric massage is a rapidly growing field pioneered by Tina Allen and the Liddle Kidz Foundation. You can feel confident that the therapist you trust with your child has had the best training there is and is now bringing that knowledge and skill to the Greensboro community.
Pediatric massage is the complementary and alternative treatment that uses massage therapy, or “the manual manipulation of soft tissue intended to promote health and well-being” for children and adolescents. This modality is wonderful for both “well” and “special-needs” children ranging in age from 3 weeks to 18 years of age.
Benefits of pediatric massage
Pediatric massage has a vast array of benefits. Several studies have shown that “well” children receiving massage and nurturing touch can see a reduction in anxiety, improved sleep, enhanced immune function, even enhanced attentiveness, long range behavior and testing scores! Nurturing touch and massage also teaches children healthy boundaries and increases self confidence.
For children with special needs we see the same benefits in addition to many more! Some of the most notable benefits are improved respiratory function, increase in growth and development, reduction in pain and not to mention improving the overall quality of life for the child and family.
Other benefits may include:
- Decreased hospital stay
- May ease physical as well as emotional discomforts associated with childhood medical conditions
- Decreased Cortisol (stress hormone) levels
- Improves family unit by encouraging child-parent bonding
- Improved muscle tone
- Improved motor function
- Enhanced body image
- Decreased aggressive behaviors, ADD, ADHD and other attention needs
- Improved gastro-intestinal function
- Increased flexibility
